OpenLoco is an open-source re-implementation of Chris Sawyer's Locomotion (CSL). CSL is the spiritual successor to Transport Tycoon and OpenLoco aims to improve the game similar to how OpenTTD improved Transport Tycoon and OpenRCT2 improved RollerCoaster Tycoon. Chris Sawyer's Locomotion was originally written by Chris Sawyer in x86 assembly, building on top of his RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 engine. Much of the code is 1:1 with RollerCoaster Tycoon 2. However, the engine has changed substantially enough that OpenLoco currently does not share its codebase with OpenRCT2. Recent implementation efforts have focussed on re-implementing the UI, so that the data structures involved may be better understood. It will create one file in the working directory, ".ose_cipher", which simply keeps track of the last used cipher. It is not necessary, just there for convenience, and if it's removed or not there, OSE will simply create another one defaulting to aes-128-ecb. Of course, OpenSSL must be present for OSE to work, and additionally, it makes calls to the system utility "echo" when encrypting text, so: Linux - OpenSSL and echo are already part of every distribution Windows - OpenSSL is probably not installed on your system, and the Windows "echo" call is inadequate for use by OSE. ParkControl v1.3.1.8 ParkControl v1.3.1.8 ParkControl is a small freeware utility that facilitates tweaking of core parking and CPU frequency scaling settings of Windows power plans. Bitsum developed ParkControl because core parking settings are hidden in Windows, but can make such a large difference on performance, particularly when there are bursting CPU bound loads (the most common type). Core Parking Core Parking is a sleep state (C6) supported by most newer x86 processors, and newer editions of Windows. Core Parking dynamically disables CPU cores in an effort to conserve power when idle. Disabled cores are re-enabled as the CPU load increases once again. This technology is very similar to frequency scaling, in that it seeks to throttle the CPU when idle. The problem is that Window's default power profiles are configured far too aggressively when it comes to core parking, especially on workstations. Their interest was in conserving energy, even if this meant marginally decreasing performance. A number of complex parameters control when a core should be parked, and Microsoft tuned heavily towards power savings. The core parking settings in Windows are implemented as parameters of power plans (aka power profiles). That means you can, for example, disable core parking for the High Performance power plan, but leave it enabled for other plans.
