OSE is completely self contained and portable, making it ideal for USB flash drives and Tails persistent storage. It will create one file in the working directory, ".ose_cipher", which simply keeps track of the last used cipher. It is not necessary, just there for convenience, and if it's removed or not there, OSE will simply create another one defaulting to aes-128-ecb. OSFMount also supports the creation of RAM disks, basically a disk mounted into RAM. This generally has a large speed benefit over using a hard disk. As such this is useful with applications requiring high speed disk access, such a database applications, games (such as game cache files) and browsers (cache files). A second benefit is security, as the disk contents are not stored on a physical hard disk (but rather in RAM) and on system shutdown the disk contents are not persistent. Features • Small • Portable • Secure Note from the author: I made a simple gui as a front end to the OpenSSL command line encryption tools, and as a little side project, wanted to make a password locker to integrate into that util. I never did, as I started using this util at work for database and web logins and the like, (I don't like password managers as browser plug-ins, any more than I like GPG email plug-ins), and so this remained just a tiny little password locker. Usage: It's pretty straight forward, the first time you run it, you will need to create a password to access the password database. After that, the same dialog will come up, but without the second "repeat password" line. Additionally, each time you login, you'll be asked if you're using an SSD, this makes a difference in how the database is closed. On a normal HDD, the "shred" utility is run to completely wipe the unencrypted database file, while on an SSD, it simply uses the UNIX / Linux "rm" command to remove the file. While shredding the file is far more secure, SSD's are far less secure by design; shred will accomplish nothing besides shortening the lifespan of the SSD. Karl M. Ping Tracer v1.9 Ping Tracer v1.9 Ping Tracer continuously pings each network host between your computer and a given destination, helping identify the source of connectivity problems. This program helps to visually determine the origin of connection problems. The latency over time is shown on graphs, and each instance of packet loss is marked in red. A common use for such a tool is to monitor your connection to a multiplayer game server so you know who to blame when you experience lag. For example, if you experience a terrible moment of lag and you see that every node beyond your router is showing elevated latency or packet loss, then the lag was on your end. Typically, a poorly performing node will affect your connection to every node after it. I built this program for personal use, and decided to share it for free as an open source project. As such, it is light on features and polish. Something you should be aware of is that when you attempt to "Graph every node leading to the destination", a trace route operation is performed in order to discover the hosts that will be monitored. The trace route operation is not optimized for speed, and will take many seconds to complete in most cases. The trace route operation attempts to contact each host (a.k.a. network node) only once. Any host that fails to respond during the trace route operation will not be monitored. The trace route operation is ended if 5 consecutive hosts fail to respond. When you use port triggering on your router a connection attempt must be made from your computer to an address on the trigger port. When you router detects the connection attempt your router then turns on the ports, thus you have port triggering, a on/off switch for port forwarding. Well the problem comes if you are using port trigging for a program that doesn't make a connection attempt, such as say a ftp server or hosting a game. If a connection is never detected the router never enables the ports. Well that's what Port Triggering Initiator is designed for. You enter the triggering port to make a connection on and give it a address outside your network. Any address will do even if the connection fails its the attempt that triggers the ports. Some quick notes: The program doesn't need any information about your router. The 'Local IP To Connect With' is your local IP, if you have more than one IP on your system it will be detected there. The triggering address can be any site or IP you like as long as it is a real address. When setting up a triggering port in your router make sure to use a port that isn't being used on your system. The program has to use that triggering port to make the connection and if it is already in use it can't make the connection.
