It does the same thing as you can remove device from Device Manager but it provides much friendly user interface as you remove the removable device from the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the notification area. It also ensures that all data are written and flushed to the disk before the device to be hot-swapped, so you can use SATA/eSATA drive as a removable device much alike USB/IEEE1394 drive. Supported Hardware and OS Windows Vista / 7 / Server 2008 / 8 / 10 (32-bit and 64-bit) SATA Host Controller (AHCI mode enabled in BIOS) (e.g. Intel Controller Hub (ICH), JMicron JMB363) Silicon Image SATA Host Controller (SiI3112A, SiI3114, SiI3132, etc) Silicon Image SATA-PATA (Parallel ATA) Bridge Controller (SiI3611) If Silicon Image controller is used, the driver will spin-down the drive upon device removable. A balloon will pop up saying that the device is safely hot-swapped and you can power off the drive to remove it from the system. You can drill down into the directorys to understand the layout of space. And when you want to clean up your disk there are same handy tools there to help. The directory called '.' is the space used by files in the base directory you are scanning from. Usage: Browse to a directory -or- click on one of the disks listed on the left to start scanning. Once the scan is complete the red cancel button will grey out. The entry marked "." relates to the files in the directory your scanning from and not any of the subdirectories. If you attempt to delete this then you'll be deleting the directory you scanning from and all files and folders contained within. This is probably not what you intended. From the author: For some years, the retroReveal website hosted by the University of Utah facilitated "the collaborative discovery of hidden content in documents, manuscripts, music, and artifacts". By separating an image into its component color channels various transformations could be applied to retroactively reveal hidden elements that would otherwise be barely visible to the naked eye. retroReveal was popular with researchers in several fields, particularly philatelists who found it especially helpful when trying to isolate postmarks and stamp cancellations. Unfortunately, retro Reveal went offline in May 2022 and seems unlikely to return.
