You can do this in your file browser: navigate to and select the AppImage file, right-click and open file properties, navigate to permissions tab, then enable 'Allow executing file as program'. You can also do this in a terminal, simply with chmod +x *.AppImage. Once the AppImage is marked executable it can be 'double-clicked' on to start xemu.
