A plea... Deanna and I have been running this site since 2008 and lately we're seeing a big increase in users (and cost) but a decline in percentage of users who donate. Our ad-free and junkware-free download site only works if everyone chips in to offset the revenue that ads on other sites bring in. Please donate at the bottom of the page. Every little bit helps. Thank you so much. Sincerely, your Older Geeks: Randy and Deanna Always scroll to the bottom of the page for the main download link. We don't believe in fake/misleading download buttons and tricks. The link is always in the same place. Hook Echo-WX v0.5.0 👉 An advanced weather radar viewer for storm tracking, forecasting and severe weather analysis. Hook Echo-WX is a powerful open-source NEXRAD weather radar viewer designed for weather enthusiasts, storm spotters, forecasters and storm chasers. Built from scratch in Rust, it combines detailed local radar analysis with nationwide weather information, forecast overlays, warning intelligence and historical storm playback. The program displays live Level 2 and Level 3 NEXRAD radar products, including reflectivity, velocity, storm-relative velocity, correlation coefficient and other specialized radar moments. A GPU-accelerated polar rendering system provides smooth radar imagery, multiple elevation tilts and fast map navigation. Hook Echo-WX can display every tracked storm cell in a sortable table with information such as hail size, storm tops, vertically integrated liquid, movement and rotation indicators. Automatic tornado debris signature detection looks for areas where low correlation coefficient overlaps strong reflectivity, while client-side azimuthal shear analysis can identify suspicious velocity couplets directly from live radar volumes. Warnings are displayed as map polygons and organized by severity. The program reads storm movement information from National Weather Service warnings and projects the storm's expected position 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes into the future. Arrival estimates can be calculated for saved locations, and warning alerts can be delivered using sounds, spoken announcements or optional ntfy.sh push notifications. The national view combines radar information from across the United States using MRMS composite reflectivity. Additional layers include precipitation totals, lightning activity, hail estimates, rotation tracks, azimuthal shear, precipitation type, flash-flood recurrence information, METAR weather stations, tropical systems, aviation hazards and Weather Prediction Center surface maps. Forecast tools include HRRR future radar, short-term radar extrapolation, forecast rotation tracks, smoke forecasts, severe weather outlooks, point forecasts, atmospheric instability overlays and sounding displays. Users can examine Skew-T diagrams, hodographs, CAPE, storm-relative helicity and several composite severe-weather indices. Archived radar data can be replayed for any available date since 2008. Historical warnings and storm reports appear at the correct points in the timeline, allowing users to review major tornadoes, hurricanes and severe weather outbreaks as they happened. Radar loops can also be exported as screenshots, animated GIF files or MP4 videos. A streamlined interface places the main controls directly over the map. Products, layers, tools, saved locations and settings are organized inside a searchable side drawer. Multi-pane layouts, cross-sections, four-tilt views, CAPPI altitude slices and three-dimensional radar volumes provide additional ways to study storm structure. ![]() Features: Displays live NEXRAD Level 2 and Level 3 radar data GPU-accelerated radar rendering with smooth map navigation Includes reflectivity, velocity, storm-relative velocity and dual-polarization products Supports VCP-aware elevation tilt selection Dealiases radar velocity data for easier storm rotation analysis Opens four radar elevation tilts at once with linked map views Creates vertical cross-sections through storms using any supported radar product Provides CAPPI altitude slices and three-dimensional volume views Detects possible tornado debris signatures using radar correlation coefficient and reflectivity Identifies suspicious velocity couplets using client-side azimuthal shear analysis Displays NOAA ProbSevere tornado, hail, wind and overall severe-weather probabilities Shows tracked storm cells with hail size, storm tops, VIL, movement and rotation flags Displays live National Weather Service warning polygons and complete warning bulletins Projects warned storm movement 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes into the future Calculates storm arrival estimates for saved locations Supports warning sounds, spoken alerts and optional ntfy.sh phone notifications Provides special alert levels for destructive storms, observed tornadoes, PDS warnings and tornado emergencies Monitors saved locations for warnings, lightning and approaching rain Displays live National Weather Service local storm reports Includes MRMS national radar mosaics and full-resolution multi-radar composites Shows hourly and 24-hour accumulated rainfall Displays GOES satellite lightning flashes and cloud-to-ground lightning density Includes hail size estimates, hail swaths, rotation tracks and azimuthal shear Shows surface precipitation type and flash-flood recurrence information Displays METAR weather stations with wind barbs and aviation flight categories Includes tropical storm tracks, forecast cones, SIGMETs and AIRMETs Provides HRRR future radar forecasts up to 18 hours Includes short-term optical-flow radar extrapolation up to 45 minutes Displays forecast rotation tracks and near-surface wildfire smoke Shows SPC Day 1 through Day 3 severe-weather outlooks Displays tornado, wind and hail probability forecasts with significant-severe areas Provides CAPE, storm-relative helicity, STP, SCP and EHI weather overlays Creates point soundings with Skew-T diagrams and hodographs Includes VAD wind profiles and time-height wind displays Provides National Weather Service point forecasts and Area Forecast Discussions Displays Weather Prediction Center fronts, pressure systems and surface analysis Replays archived radar, warnings and storm reports dating back to 2008 Includes a curated collection of major historical weather events Saves personal bookmarks for archived storms Exports radar loops as screenshots, GIF animations or MP4 videos Supports custom GRLevelX .pal radar color tables Supports placefiles with icons, opacity controls and layer ordering Allows external programs and scripts to provide custom placefile data Includes multi-pane radar layouts, range rings and 13 interface themes Provides a searchable control drawer and Ctrl+K quick search Saves locations and monitors each one using an adjustable warning radius Supports optional Google Drive synchronization of settings and saved locations Includes live GPS chase mode on supported devices Supports offline chase packs containing pre-downloaded map tiles Allows optional position sharing between devices on the same network Includes a streamlined, chrome-free display mode for streaming and OBS Can automatically tour active weather warnings for live broadcasts Displays historical tornado tracks and warning statistics for selected locations Shows National Weather Service storm-damage surveys when available Supports user-provided NOAA Weather Radio stream addresses Includes freehand map drawing tools Displays available airport and highway weather cameras Provides live station cards with temperature, humidity, dew point, wind and observation age Uses a touch-friendly interface with native GPS and background alerts on Android Includes Windows installers, an MSI package and a portable Windows archive Supported operating systems: Windows 10, Windows 11 Linux 64-bit Android 10 or Higher, ARM64 Supported languages: English Changes: v0.5.0 07-25-26 Not provided. ![]() ![]() ![]() This download is for the Windows portable version (very bottom of page).
