Microsoft Bob v1.00a Microsoft Bob v1.00a A disk image (ISO) of Microsoft Bob. For use on a very old computer or a virtual machine. Microsoft Bob was Microsoft’s quirky attempt in the mid-90s to make computers easier for beginners. Instead of the typical Windows desktop, it gave users a cartoon-style house where rooms represented different computer tasks. Want to write a letter? Click the desk. Need to do math? Click the calculator on the shelf. It also came with friendly cartoon guides, like Rover the dog, to help walk you through things—kind of like an early (and less annoying) version of Clippy from Microsoft Office. Bob had good intentions, but it was slow, weird, and most people didn’t like it. It quickly became one of Microsoft’s most famous flops, but it did leave behind some legacies—like inspiring Comic Sans and parts of later Windows helpers. Click here to visit the author's website. |
