Welcome to NPS Image Editor! Click here to view your first tip.
NPS Image Editor now supports layers! Click the "Layers" button on the bottom right to show the list.
Make NPS Image Editor even better! You can send bug reports or feature suggestions by clicking "Send Feedback" in the Help menu.
Click the large foreground or background swatch to open the Color Picker and choose one of over 4.2 billion colors.
Click and drag the color swatches in the sidebar to rearrange or delete them.
Right-click on the foreground or background color square to temporarily choose a color selector.
Using a touchscreen? Click View -> Touch-friendly Layout to make buttons and controls bigger.
You can smooth jagged edges in lines and shapes by clicking Format -> Smooth Edges.
Color Cycling allows you to automatically draw with every color in the palette. Click "Pick" on the sidebar.
If NPS Image Editor ever crashes or you lose power, it will attempt to recover your work for you.
You can apply a filter to just part of your image by making a selection first.
To swap selected and non-selected areas, click Edit -> Invert Selection.
Customize just about any aspect of NPS Image Editor by clicking Tools -> Options.
Manage brushes, color palettes, and more by going to Tools -> Component Manager.
To scroll horizontally, hold down the Shift key while rolling the scroll wheel.
To adjust drawing width while moving the mouse, hold down the Alt key and roll the wheel.
Click View -> Zoom, or press Ctrl++ or Ctrl+-, to zoom in and out. You can even zoom to a custom level.
You can drag and drop an image file from another program into an NPS Image Editor window to open it.
To make NPS Image Editor automatically scroll while you resize, double-click "SCR" in the status bar or click View -> Auto Scroll.
Change the way you edit transparent regions by choosing Opaque, Keyed, or Alpha.
Use the "Keyed" transparency mode to quickly move text from screenshots without moving the background.
To open a new NPS window, press Ctrl+Shift+N or click File -> New Instance.
Easily draw dashed, dotted, or custom-pattern lines and curves by selecting Format -> Border Style.
Shapes and standard brushes can be filled with your choice of pattern. Click Format -> Fill Style to select.
You can flip, rotate, or apply just about any filter to text created with the Text Tool.
You can make the background image "peek through" transparent regions of the selection by clicking Format -> Selection Compositing Mode -> Overlay.
Add a drop shadow to your text by applying the Gaussian Blur filter, then duplicating text over the top of it.
You can view the credits and attributions for NPS by clicking Help -> About.
Change the colors of the NPS Image Editor user interface by opening Tools -> Options and going to the "Color Schemes" page under "Appearance".
If you're feeling particularly adventurous, enable the Debug menu in the Configuration Panel.
View detailed information about your installed copy of NPS by clicking Help -> NPS Version and System Information
Pan around the image while using any tool by holding down your middle mouse button.
To draw inside of a selection, right-click on it and choose "Selection to Layer"
Right-click on a layer in the list for layer-specific options
Double-click on a layer to edit its properties
The selection is always part of the active layer and only contains its data. To copy everything visible in the selection right-click and select Copy Merged.
Right-click the Paste button for options to crop the image before opening it for editing.
You can clip part of the screen using the NPS Quick Snip utility in the Start menu.
Adjust the opacity of the active layer by holding Ctrl and rolling the wheel over it in the layer list.
Blending modes change how the pixels in the upper layer are blended with the one below. Try them out today!
The XOR and NXOR blending modes allow you to quickly see pixel-level differences between two images.
The Roll Hue blending mode allows you to recolor your image using the brightness of the top layer.
Explore the filters available in NPS Image Editor by using the Filter Gallery.
Automate your workflow with scripts! Click the Script menu to try out some built-in scripts or create your own.
A mask allows your layer to have a non-rectangular shape. Right-click the layer to add a mask, or create a new layer from a selection.
Set a layer's color mode to Grayscale to allow it to be used as a single channel in blending.
The Magic Wand tool allows you to select regions of your image matching a certain color.
The Gradient tool allows you to quickly create a gradient within a layer by dragging between two points.
Once a rectangular selection has been created, you can refine it by expanding or shrinking it.
Quickly center your selection by right-clicking on it, going to Move, and clicking Center.
Ripple Delete allows you to quickly delete a full row or column of pixels from your image.
Color modes can restrict the colors in your image for artistic purposes or to fit a specific format.
Color modes can be applied to individual layers or to the image globally. Check out the Color menu for both options!
Convert your image to Indexed color mode to allow editing its colors separately from its pixels.
Global color mode ensures that your multi-layer image can be flattened to a palette-restricted format.
Indexed images can have filters applied to the palette.
NPS Image Editor now supports editing animated GIFs as individual frames. Try editing one today!
Use the Page Up and Page Down keys to scroll through layers. Use Shift+Space to toggle the active layer's visibility.
Use Shift+Page Up and Shift+Page Down to walk through each frame in an animated GIF.
You can edit each frame individually without blending by enabling the "Display Layers as Frames" option in the Image menu.
Indexed mode allows you to swap out your image's palette to quickly change the color scheme.
Use the Palette mode to non-destructively restrict your image's colors to a specific palette.
Control how transparency data behaves by setting the Transparency Mode of your layer.
An indexed palette can contain one or more transparent colors.
Quickly generate a swatch palette from your image by going to Color -> Swatches from Image.
Reduce your image's color depth without changing its color mode by using the Color -> Reduce Color Depth option.
