MAKE SURE THERE IS NO DISC IN THE CDRW DRIVE
 1.  Unzip the firmware upgrade file (4224firm140.zip) to your desktop. 
 2.  Double click on the SAF.EXE file.
 3.  Select the SAF CD-RW 4224A drive and click Update
 4.  Choose the .hex file (vsf140a.hex) and click OK
 5.  The light on the front of the drive will turn solid orange
 6.  Then it will quickly blink orange
 7.  Finally you will get a dialog box saying "Update Completed"
 8.  Your choices are to Shutdown or No
 9.  Choose Shutdown
10.  When the computer boots back up your firmware revision for the 4224          should now be v1.40
11.  If you have any trouble running the firmware upgrade, make sure that DMA      is not enabled for the CDRW drive.  You can check this in Device Manager      which is located in the Control Panel under System.  Then you choose the      Device Manager tab.  Then click the plus sign next to cdrom and you          should see the 4224 listed.  Double click on it and choose the settings      tab.  Under options, you will see DMA.  Make sure that is not checked.       Then try the firmware upgrade again.
