SOLUTION FOR- “The file ‘Asms’ on Windows XP Professional CD-ROM is needed.” or “The file ‘asms’ on WinXP Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD is needed”

The file ‘Asms’ on Windows XP Professional CD-ROM is needed. Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK. Copy files from: GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386

or

“The file “asms” on WinXP Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD is needed” Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK. Copy files from: GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386

Setup is having problems communicating with your CD-ROM>

To fix the problem:

01. When you receive the error, start a CMD session by pressing SHIFT+F10.

02. Type regedit.exe and press Enter.

03. Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

04. On the File menu, press Load Hive.

05. Browse to Windows\System32\Config\System.sav. hit OK

06. Enter AAA when prompted for a name.

07. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\AAA\ControlSetn\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, where ControlSetn is the lowest control set.

08. Delete both UPPERFILTERS and LOWERFILTERS.

09. Repeat step 07 and 08 for every control set.

10. Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\AAA and Unload Hive from the File menu.

11. Close the CMD prompt and hit cancel on the error. Windows will reboot and restart the install. This time it will finish.
